Today is World Environment Day, and this year’s theme focuses on the connection between people and nature, encouraging us to get outdoors and immerse ourselves in nature to appreciate its beauty and reflect on how integral we are to it and how much we depend on it. It challenges us to discover fun and exciting ways to experience and promote that connection.
The beauty of this day lies in its diversity. It’s a time for the world’s citizens to act collectively, show their care, and show their love for the planet.
In December 1972, the General Assembly designated June 5 as World Environment Day to raise public awareness of the need to preserve and improve the environment. The date chosen was in commemoration of the day it opened the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm in 1972.
World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day of global environmental awareness and action.
It’s an opportunity for all of us to do something positive for the environment, channeling individual actions and transforming them into a collective effort.
