The San Javier City Council has awarded Pavapark Movilidad the contract to supply and install IT services to transform the municipality of San Javier into a Smart Tourist Destination.
The purpose of the contract is to provide the municipality of San Javier with the technological and innovative advances and infrastructure necessary to begin the conversion of its tourism model to a Smart Tourism Destination, focusing on monitoring. The actions to be carried out are as follows: air quality sensors, new electric vehicle charging stations, parking space occupancy sensors and vehicle access control, traffic control, smart cameras and connectivity, totems at Information Points and Citizen Security Points, smart points of interest, a smart promenade, and information screens.
Air sensing will consist of the supply and installation of a series of sensors that will allow the municipality’s meteorological and environmental conditions to be monitored, providing data to generate new information services for citizens and tourists. The new electric vehicle charging stations will consist of the supply and installation of a series of electric vehicle charging stations, their location and usage level, using a public display available to citizens and tourists, as well as the installation of thermal cameras for temperature measurement and fire detection.
Regarding the parking space sensor system and vehicle access control, this involves the supply and installation of a camera-based solution that monitors the use of the parking areas in San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera, identifies and displays vacant parking spaces for the benefit of residents and tourists, and controls vehicle access, verifying their correct location through database access.
People control consists of a counting system based on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi sensors to detect patterns of behavior and repetition, allowing it to determine, for example, whether the visitor is a tourist or a resident. The system must also be able to determine the route taken by tourists through the municipality, the length of stay at different locations or tourist attractions, etc. The data collected by the sensors must be anonymous and contain no personal information about the registered individuals, in strict compliance with current regulations.
In addition, two services will be implemented, focusing on security and connectivity. A network of cameras will be installed in the municipality’s main tourist areas to provide greater levels of citizen security, and a Wi-Fi network will be created on Santiago de la Ribera beaches, available to residents and visitors, as well as serving as a potential communication support for the various devices located on the promenade.
Existing street furniture will also be reused, converting two telephone booths located in the municipality into a 24/7 tourist information office with a touchscreen that allows users to check bus schedules, find out about tourist event schedules, purchase event tickets, obtain information on local businesses, and more. The creation of smart points of interest will consist of audiovisual resources for visitors to obtain information and learn about the various tourist attractions in the municipality. Using beacon technology, visitors will be able to connect their smartphones to a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth network, allowing them to view videos, photographs, and online material about the tourist attraction in question, thus gaining greater insight into the cultural heritage without the need for a tour guide.
This project is aligned with PAVAPARK’s strategy to incorporate advanced technology into the development of Smart Cities and transform the municipality of San Javier into a Smart Tourist Destination.
